Japan College of Rheumatology (JCR) will provide a grant to attend the 54th annual general assembly and scientific meeting of Japan College of Rheumatology (JCR2010) and the 19th international Rheumatology Symposium in Kobe on April 22-25 2010. The purpose of the JCR2010 international scholarship is to encourage young scientists and medical doctors under 40 years old other than Japanese to refine their knowledge of rheumatology and send their original scientific message to the world through JCR2010. A PhD position is available in the Polymer Physics Group of Prof. Dr. H. C. Öttinger, Department of Materials, ETH Zürich, Switzerland. PhD Position - Multiscale Modeling in Polymer Physics The modeling of polymers is particularly challenging due to the multitude of length and time scales that come into play.  In order to get a profound understanding of the dynamic behavior of such materials, multiscale modeling approaches are essential. This implies specifically the integration of
  • coarse graining,
  • thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, and
  • computer simulations
into a powerful ensemble to tackle the problem. The PhD position offered here is concerned with the multiscale modeling of the mechanical behavior of semi-crystalline polymers under strong deformation

The Center for Systems Biology, University of Iceland (www.systemsbiology.is, CSB UoI), is looking to recruit a highly motivated PhD students to join a growing effort focusing on systems biology of human metabolism. The research at the CSB UoI focuses on 1) human metabolism and 2) industrial biotechnology. The Center is an interdisciplinary center with the Schools of Medicine, Engineering and Natural Sciences participating.
