The role of peroxisomes in ageing.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are serious threats of living cells, because they can damage important macromolecules. ROS contribute to ageing, which is the loss of viability due to cell deterioration. In eukaryotes mitochondria and peroxisomes are the major ROS producing organelles. This project aims to understand the role of peroxisomes in ageing and cell death, using yeast as a model system.

A postdoctoral position is available to conduct psychophysical and computational studies of 3D vision in Martin Banks' lab in the Vision Science program at UC Berkeley. The project will investigate several aspects of visual space perception including the information content provided by various sources of information (e.g., disparity, blur, perspective, and cues based on natural-scene statistics) and how information from those various sources is combined. We are particularly interested in understanding these information sources in natural viewing. Dr. Banks' lab has developed special apparatus that allows unique opportunities to understand how the visual system estimates the 3D structure of the environment. One allows the study of 3D vision with all cues controllable including blur and accommodation. Another allows the study of 3D vision with optical higher-order aberrations corrected in both eyes.
