In Partnership with the Global Environmental Non-Profit "Rare"

 

The collaboration between University of Texas-El Paso and RARE is the first of its kind. Coordinated out of the Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies at UTEP, conservationists who enroll in the Rare/UTEP M.A. program tackle real issues harming the environment, like illegal bush-meat hunting and dynamite fishing. The conservationists learn social marketing tools aimed to engage the community to combat and change destructive practices.

We will have a number of INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS and INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS available for the Spring 2010 semester.  The application deadline for the spring semester is September 1st, 2009.

STP for students is one of the first cyclical Polish programs directed to young people from Eastern Europe. Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Program welcomes applications for 3-month intesnship in Canadian Parliament (Ottawa, Canada).  

The aims of CUPP are to open up to students from Ukraine the opportunity to work with a Member of Parliament and his or her staff, attend sessions of question period, attend meetings of parliamentary committees, participate in media scrums, perform administrative functions, undertake research assignments, research government and party policies, attend meetings and conferences of educational organizations, become acquainted with and use the research facilities of the House of Commons and its library, and carry out general office duties. Qatar Foundation invites applications for the WISE Awards 2009 to support outstanding practice and achievements within the themes of Pluralism, Sustainability and Innovation in education. Two prizes will be awarded for each of these three themes.

Project Description:  Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden's Center for Tropical Plant Conservation and Florida International University seek a graduate research assistant to study the invasive ecology of the exotic grass Melinis repens in pine rockland and scrub plant communities of Miami-Dade County.  This 2-year position will require the development of Best Management Practices for the funding agency in addition to a peer-reviewed publication about the research.

Two fully funded PhD studentships are available within the Freshwater Ecology Research Group, School of Biological Sciences, University of Canterbury for freshwater ecology research.  This is a chance for high calibre students to join a successful research team investigating a wide variety of issues in freshwater ecosystems.

We are looking for students who can undertake innovative research that will both improve understanding of fundamental issues and enhance current management.  There is an opportunity for students to develop their own research ideas as long as they fit within the overall focus of the research group.  However, we would especially like to hear from students who wish to work on either (a) the effects of flow variation on the ecology of threatened galaxiid fishes or (b) the influence of urbanisation on stream invertebrate populations.

The objective of EuropeanaConnect (http://www.europeanaconnect.eu/) is to deliver core components which are essential for the realization of the European Digital Library (Europeana) as a truly interoperable, multilingual and user-oriented service for all European citizens. The project will provide the  technologies and resources to semantically enrich vast amounts of digital content in Europeana. This will enable semantically based content discovery including support for advanced searching and browsing, allowing for delivery of enhanced services and making Europeana content more accessible, reusable and exploitable.

Speed Illusions Caused by Variations of Object Contrast

A Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES) is available in the Department of Psychology for a PhD investigating "Speed illusions caused by variations of object contrast" in association with an Australian Research Council-funded research project. The successful candidate will join a research team investigating the visual processing of motion information using psychophysical techniques in the beautiful city of Sydney, Australia.
