University of Reading Up to two fees-only scholarships will be awarded to applicants for full-time study in any of the following programmes: M Res (Law & Society); MA Res (Legal History); M Res (Law). For one scholarship preference may be given to applicants for the M Res (Law & Society). Applicants applying for more than one programme should indicate their order of preference. Scholarships will cover fees at the rate for UK/EU students.
Durham Business School is offering three postgraduate PhD funding opportunities for October 2009 entry. These are open to applicants interested in any area, provided the intended topic matches existing research interests within the School. These studentships are available for the 2009/10 academic year and cover fees at the home/EU rate (currently £3,390). The award is open to all students (home/EU and overseas). The deadline for applications is 30 June 2009.

Description : A PhD Research Assistantship position in Robotics and Mechatronics Design will be available to start in January 2010 in the Measurement and Control Engineering Research Center (MCERC), College of Engineering, Idaho State University (ISU), Pocatello, Idaho, USA. The PhD student will join a team whose research is centered on developing a novel Smart Hand Prosthesis. Topics of the project include signal processing, estimation theory, system identification, robotics, embedded systems and intelligent control, bio-signaling and bio-sensing, image processing, sensor design and related topics. The student's area of research will be the on the mechanical design of the robotic hand from a biomechatronics point of view. Applicants for the PhD research assistantship position should have a Master's degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical engineering or similar discipline, with strong credentials. Background on robotics, mechanical design, and the use of design tools such as CAD, FEA, etc., will be also considered during the selection process. The Research Assistantship covers tuition and fees, medical insurance and a monthly stipend.
Applicants are invited for a PhD scholarship in the Meteorology Program of the Wind Energy Division at Risø DTU. The Meteorology Program is aimed at basic research in the fields of boundary layer meteorology, assessment of wind resources for power generation and of wind loads on turbines and various other structures.

Applications for an IPRS PhD fellowship are invited in the area of automated image analysis of cell and tissue based assays in relation to drug discovery for Alzheimer's disease. The PhD student will be enrolled at the University of Western Sydney, and the project will be jointly supervised by Prof. Gerald Münch from the Department of Pharmacology at the UWS School of Medicine, and by Dr. Pascal Vallotton, leader of the biotech imaging group at CSIRO. The fellowship will be valued at 22000 $ per year (tax free) plus a 7000 $ CSIRO top-up for 3 years, with a possible extension of 6 months.
The James Beard Foundation offers the Jean-Louis Palladin Professional Work/Study Grant to enable qualified professional cooks and chefs to work with producers of food products at their source. The amount of the grant will be based on the time and expenses needed to complete a specific training plan. Covered expenses include travel to and from the internship location and income subsidies and living expenses during the internship.
THE ILLUMINATION ATELIER, an on-going project in the arts, seeks individuals interested in learning the fine art of illumination. Uniquely, the ILLUMINATION ATELIER will provide an introduction to the history and special characteristics of manuscript illumination and illuminated painting; illumination and gilding skills including use of 22 karat gold leaf, silver leaf and copper leaf; preparation of linen, paper, papyrus and vellum for leafing; the use of egg tempera; and the interdisciplinary relationship of illumination to text and lettering design. Apprentices will work on and complete the actual illuminated paintings, utilizing knowledge gained in the Atelier setting and the specific characteristics of illumination pertinent to the current project.
