PhD ‘Transnational families: Migration strategies and socio-demographic changes

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
The faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) has approximately 200 employees and around 1,500 students. The faculty is very internationally oriented and several of the programmes are offered in English. Its students come from all over the world. The FASoS offers two three-year bachelor programmes: Arts and Culture and European Studies, and 10 one-year master programmes.

The University of Bridgeport, USA, will automatically evaluate all international graduate students, applying to a program in our School of Engineering or School of Business, for a 4 credit per semester Graduate Assistantship (GA). More than 150 of these GA opportunities with tuition remission are available.   As a GA you will be given the opportunity to work directly with our faculty as either a research, teaching or administrative assistant.

Post-doctoral and Graduate Student Positions in Functional Genomics of Wine Grapes

Wine Research Centre & Michael Smith Laboratories, UBC

The UBC Wine Research Centre (http://www.landfood.ubc.ca/wine/lund/lund.html) and Michael Smith Laboratories (www.michaelsmith.ubc.ca/faculty/bohlmann/) are currently seeking two outstanding post-doctoral research associates and one graduate student to join an existing and productive team conducting research in the area of wine grape functional genomics. One post-doctoral position is available immediately (position 1), and a graduate student assistantship is available in September 2009 (position 2), for functional genomics research in grape terpenoid synthases and terpenoid biochemistry.  One post-doctoral position (position 3) is available in September 2009 to characterize gene promoter regulation in berries in response to nitrogen fertilization with a focus on modulation of hormone and terpenoid metabolism.

National Center of Competence in Research - ‘Frontiers in Genetics', Switzerland

Starting in October 2009

Frontiers in Genetics proposes an international program for doctoral training, supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation. This program is based at the University of Geneva, and includes participating members from all of our NCCR's institutions. The program starts in October 2009 and provides a strong background in molecular genetics and genomics to address cutting edge biological issues.

We wish to recruit outstanding candidates with a degree in biological sciences and a commitment to a career in research. The selected students will receive stipends for four years, providing they complete all program requirements.

The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies (GPTS) is part of the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows" at the University of Heidelberg. It offers a structured PhD programme within the interdisciplinary research environment of the Cluster. The programme's main location is the Karl Jaspers Centre (KJC), situated at the University of Heidelberg. PhD students will be trained by scholars working within the Cluster and will have access to a vibrant international scholarly community. The doctoral programme offers (a) an introduction to theories and methodologies of transcultural studies, (b) access to a well-equipped work environment supported by European and Asian institutions, (c) participation in the gathering of textual and nontextual source material, (d) support of PhD projects which are linked to the broad research fields pursued by the Cluster.
The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies (GPTS) is part of the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows" at Heidelberg University (http://www.asia-europe.uni-heidelberg.de/). The objective of the Cluster is to examine processes of cultural exchange with a strong focus on interdisciplinary research. The Cluster challenges the master narrative of asymmetrical Western domination along with its historical explanation, its methodology and the resulting structures of humanities and social science research.
